New Developments in Sleep Science

The field of neuroscience has developed significant publications on the purpose of sleep which identify that one of the purposes of sleep is to detoxify the brain. The brain weighs only a few kilogram but is claimed to use a major portion of the bodies energy (some suggest 20%), and the waste products from this energy use are increasingly “flushed out” from the brain during sleep.
